Hi Gail, it does depend on what you're painting. I've never regretted going all out and expensive and used Rustoleum before even on wood if its going to be outside.
What are you painting? Overall, spray paint works great!
Make sure it is intended for exterior use
Buy the best you can afford. I love latex paint but, use oil based outside.
Marine paint is made for outdoors and moist conditions and a few coats of marine poly would make it even more durable for longer and give it a tough topcoat. Think about the abuse wood on a boat gets over time just from the sun, weather and constant moist conditions.
It depends on what you’re painting. You can ask at the paint counter of your local home improvement store what’s best for your project.
I use Behr granite grip for outdoor concrete. It holds up well!
