Wine Bottle Plant Watering Stake
I used to do this all the time when we would go on vacation. I would set up my plants with a string coming out of the soil from the bottom of the pot and have the string long enough to be submerged into a container of water that would be enough water to last while we were gone. The plant drinks itself using this method. This is called a watering wick system. Since then though I have bought those pretty glass balls that you add water to and submerge the pointy end of it in dirt. https://www.amazon.com/Trenton-Gifts-Multi-Colored-Watering-Measures/dp/B07MH67F17/ref=asc_df_B07MH67F17/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309807711822&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16466628823390353124&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007919&hvtargid=pla-623079226982&psc=1
The plant drinks what it needs as well. If you are referring to making an actual pot that is self watering, check out this you tube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qlKw70-1XQ. Good luck!

One way is to place a strip of cotton cloth in a container of water and then place the other end in the pot. This works well for those who may be going away on a vacation for a short period of time.
