Hello Joyce,
There is a product (Stain Cover or Block ) , available in DIY stores etc. It should do the job for you...
PAPER ~ Get some paper the same color as your ceiling. Tear it in bits a couple of inches long. With school glue, decoupage them (brush some glue with a paint brush onto the ceiling, attach the paper & brush over the paper to glue it down). Repeat until stain is completely covered. You could do the whole ceiling this way if you want. That way, it will blend in & won't be noticed. Easy project but time-consuming. Well worth the effort when finished. You could even use different colors of paper to give your ceiling that abstract stained glass look when finished.
Use Kilz paint. It is made for this purpose to cover stains so your new paint will not have the stains bleed thru.
MIx a little bleach in some water and dab the stains lightly until they disappear.
