You could tile it, or paint and stencil it to look like tile.
You could use tile or paint it as an accent. Just make sure it's something easy to wash.
They have different tiles now that are pretty easy to install, they have some that are like stickers now. We are getting ready to move soon and I plan on finding some I like and doing just that. They have different texture to pick from. They also have peel and stick heavy duty wall paper you’d be able to scrub if they get dirty in different textures even ones that look metal.
