How can you make a plastic tote into a yard pond?

    I love the idea, what a great alternative use of a plastic tote - This tutorial although not specific to plastic tortes, is a really good step by step set of instructions for building a pond which I can think you could use to create your own

    Looks like you can!

    My only other thought would be the quality of the plastic tote and the weather, this comes from experience. I had the "bright idea'" of using a childs plastic pool in the backyard to grow strawberries.

    It worked very well for 2 years, then the plastic degraded from hot summers/freezing winters and cracked into a whole lot of fragile pieces, no fun cleaning that up!

    Yes, the plastic tote will deteriorate in about 2 years. It's the wrong plastic for that.

    Redcatcec has a good point about using plastic designed for the purpose, espcecially if you are planning to put time and labour into the project.

    Yes, the tote will break down after awhile.

    A galvanized livestock watering container will last.
