How can I incorporate a reading bench or nook into a wall of built in bookshelves? I’d like to break up the wall with a cozy and inviting reading space.

Here are some ideas. https://www.google.com/search?q=reading+nook+in+bookshelf&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjQpdDApdzhAhWnl-AKHYjgAoIQsAR6BAgIEAE&biw=1680&bih=821
Some bookshelves are comprised of boxes fastened together. A reading nook can be allocated by skipping a few boxes on the 2nd tier. this leaves room for a cushion or whatever else you want.
I think joining two bookcases with a bench would be great. If you can add pictures, I think you can get some very applicable advise.

Anne, a soft bench in front of the window with pillows and cushion, or a comfy seat and lamp in the corner, or even a run and bean bag chair next to the book shelves. A plant and area rug make it feel cozier. If there is not a nice big window, be sure to place a lamp close by the sitting area.
