I sell a lot of silver on Ebay. Jewelry, silverware, serving sets. Silver polish like Wrights and dips like TarnX tend to remove some of the metal. The foil method doesn't work that great and still leaves a grey film that still needs to be removed. I use white toothpaste (not gel) and a damp toothbrush. For large items I use a damp cloth. Also works on copper, brass, gold, porcelain, ceramics, sneakers, plastics, etc. For my sales I needed one product for cleaning everything.

Actually, I have been using the toothpaste formula for many years and have always done a wonderful job. You’ll be impressed in how much money you save buying unnecessary items. Another item I advise to anyone, to have around the kitchen: BAR KEEPERS FRIEND cleanser. Water, cleanser powder and sponge. Good for silver, brass, stainless steel, cookware. The best thing ever, DOES NOT SCRATCH and seriously will leave you happy and satisfied.
To anyone, try it. It’s cheap, it’s worth it!

William, I’ve been working on a silver plated piece for 20 minutes, using a damp rag & white toothpaste. I still have another 15 minutes at this rate.
Do you let it sit on there awhile before rubbing it?
Should I use a dry rag?
