How do I kill grass and weeds?
I have a hillside that I don’t want to cut with lawnmower. How can I kill the grass/weeds and what can I plant that will cover the area?

Once you put down a grass killer nothing will grow there but weeds for at least 3 - 5 years. If you kill everything off, you would have to place stone on top. I can't think of anything else. My neighbor tried to do the same thing 7 years ago. He killed all the grass and weeds. However he couldn't get anything else to grow there after. A year later weeds started growing. For 6 years all he had was a hill full of weeds. Last year was first year he got some grass to grow again with help from a landscaper.
You could lay thick black plastic over grass for awhile to kill off grass or rent a sod remover. Then plant flocks or clover. Both will spread throughout your yard and neighbors yard.
Clover however is considered to be environmently friendly, good for soil, good for animals and softer to walk on then grass.
I have part of my yard that has to be cut with a weed eater because it is so steep. I decided to cover it 2 inches deep in mulch. It took quite a bit but it turned out great. The first 2 years I sprayed the weeds and kept is just mulch. Last year I planted a variety of plants and they came back this year so I am adding more. I am going for a natural look so if there are a few weeds, I pull them. I have "monkey grass", purple heart, and quite a few different creeping plants that I got cutting from different friends. I'm adding hostas this year, not sure what else.
