Do you mean in a store that is selling produce or in a garden? In a store, they will be marked and so you can learn about the difference in how they look. Great suggestions! If you started from seed, the packet has a photo of the plant too. When in doubt, let it grow until it is easily identifiable or Google, or go to the grocery store and see what the mature lettuce or spinach looks like. Over time you will easily be able to determine what is an edible plant versus an unwanted weed.
