Hi Wink, using gloves and protective eye wear, saturate a paper towel with brush or vegetation kill. Wrap it around a branch you can access that is not attached to another plant. You don't want the towel to touch other plants. Then use plastic wrap and wrap the towel completely. This protects the towel from drying out. It will take some time, but you will completely kill the ivy. If you're over-run with the ivy, you may want to kill everything by spraying, then till it all under, starting anew.
There is a special spray for poison ivy. It's the only thing I've used that is very effective. Spray it as is, don't try to touch it or anything. Then leave it for 12 weeks, it will die down into the roots and not return.

1/2 cup table salt
1 tablespoon liquid detergent or soap (I use Dawn) for stick-to-itiveness.
Directions
Repeat as necessary.
