How do I declutter my closet?
I need to go through my clothes and shoes and lurches for more space and get clothes and shoes removed that are no longer worn. Every time I look at closet, ready to start, I don’t no where to start. Need help getting organized.

Block out an entire day in your schedule. Take out everything. Before placing back in the closet, try on the items you have not worn in ages to see if you want to keep. Same with shoes, purses, scarves, hats, etc. By the end of the day, you will have a giant pile to donate. Photograph each item for tax purposes and call a local church or Police Department to give to a women's shelter where they always are desperate for free items. It is not difficult, just time consuming. I do it twice a year. Over time I also invested in huggable hangers so everything looks neat and tidy.
I take one closet problem, shoes, one day. I work on it. Then the next day or week I tackle the left side of closet. Repeat till completed. Once you start small you are done in no time.
pick a category - just do shirts one day. Then do one kind of shoes another day - like one day on boots, one day on sneakers, one day on dress shoes. That way you won't get overwhelmed having to do it all in one day. Break it up by pants, sweaters, or even by season as well.

If you don't need this done asap you can try this. Hang all your clothes with the hangers facing backwards. As you wear things rehang them the correct way. After a while check your closet. If its still on a backwards hanger youre probably not going to wear it. Exception would be a cocktail dress etc.
Hi Elaine - This is one of my favorite articles on cleaning, organizing and decluttering. It really breaks down the steps of the process, and even includes an interview with TV show Hoarders star Matt Paxton. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
