Hello N! If you have a Habitat Restore in your area they usually have FANTASTIC prices on tile. Most of it is brought in by others who have left over tile and don't want it laying around. Perhaps you might find enough for your bathroom walls. You can make a comforter with gray sheets and polyester batting if you have some basic sewing skills.
I hope you also add some cheerful colors too.

Take at look online at Ikea's selection of duvet covers for comforters. If you have an older quilt or comforter you may find one in a color and pattern (with gray in it) that you like that can go right over the old quit/comforter. Ikea is inexpensive compared to buying at a department store. Also keep an eye on clearance sales at places like Kohls - you can buy from them online too. You can pick up really nice quilts/spreads/and duvet cover sets for not much money on clearance. Do you have inspiration photos for bathrooms using gray tile and a bedroom with a gray comforter? If not, look around on the internet for inspiration ideas including Pinterest. That will help you firm up your design plan and select a design style or aesthetic. I wasn't shopping for gray tile, but a few years ago I actually purchased great subway tile style "marble" look porcelain tiles from Wayfair online for under $2 a square foot to do a kitchen backsplash for myself. They were smaller size (2 x 5) and come in sheets on mesh, which made putting them up go swiftly once cut. I think one can never go wrong with black, white and gray with some pops of color in accessories. The look can easily be changed by changing out accessories, which I do seasonally. Good luck with your room redos.
The great thing about using a gray pallet is how much fun you can have adding accent colors in accessories that you can easily change!
