We want to replace our old windows with aluminum ones. What do we need to do?

There are many books and You Tube videos that can show you how to do the mortar work. Run electric line from source to the post. Use either a switch in the house or a photocell at the light to control light. Wires need to be outdoor rated and should be buried inside plastic pipe for protection. Connie, after a fresh paint, if you want to add some more updated ideas: people are stenciling some decor on windows, making new updated shades and even stencilling curtains, or make an updated valance that is easy to create. If you click on "explore projects" then "decorate" then type windows, curtains, or valance in the search box you will find an unlimited amount of info and projects. I hope this gives you some ideas from which you can glean. Happy decorating!
