A light weight cornice window treatment that looks to be upscaled and modern looking is popular with people I know now. Here is one example. If you click on "explore projects" and type "window treatments" in the search box and hit enter, you may find many more ideas that will fit your home. A second idea I am seeing a lot is faux window stained glass which can be done with contact paper, plastic film and water, or glue and paint. A High End Look for Less: Foam Board Cornice Window Treatment
Melissa....I like blinds and just a valance. It's really just a matter of opinion and taste.
Since I don't follow "trends" to me it doesn't matter. What are you looking for? High end like in Architectural Digest? Or something to compliment the style of the home? Yet easy to care for without spending a fortune on dry cleaning every season?
I like using drop cloth curtains throughout our home! They are no sew and so easy! Here is the tutorial: https://www.aratariathome.com/blog/diy-drop-cloth-curtains
It really just depends on the window and your taste. Some windows don't have space around the perimeter so you would need to do shades or blinds. If you have room you can do panels. A cheap option is to use those painters drop cloths. As far as trends go I am hearing that shutters are no longer popular.
