Hi Deb,
Unless you have a bee hive, it's important not to kill bees. Bees are losing population and it's affecting the pollination of our food. Already there are bee keepers who travel with their bees to pollinate farms which don't have enough bees for our food. You can repel bees by not having any flowers in your yard and making sure that there are no bee hives. If you see them going in and flying out or around a specific area during the day, you might have a hive. The best thing to do in that case is to call a bee keeper to remove the hive. If you don't know where to look, ask at a plant nursery or even your local Extension service. Every county in the USA has one, I think - usually connected to a university. Just search your county name and extension service. To keep bees from making homes around your house, use a preventive measure, Spray regularly with water mixed with Dawn. Bees don't like it so they won't stay. Bees pollinate our flowers and our food. That's where they get their food and we depend on their pollination to eat. Wishing you the best.
Any particular reason why? We desperately need them! If you are afraid of them, just let them be, they don't attack people when going about their business. If allergic, just carry an EPI pen. I carry one at all times. Or don't grow flowering plants. Nature does work that way, we don't get to control what goes on outside our homes. Nature always wins. 🌞
Different bees can be kept way via different methods. For example, carpenter bees (some call wood bees) do not like citrus fruit or citrus oils. Put a few drops of citrus oil in a spray water bottle with water and spray around the area you want to keep them away. Other bees/hornets/wasps can be kept away by tying a paper bag stuffed with crumpled paper under a porch eave or house eave. A friend of mine put one on her front porch and one under the eaves by her back door. They think there are territorial paper wasps in the area and leave. Do not wear perfumes, perfumed lotions etc when outside or clothes with flower prints on them. Hope this helps Deb.
