Hi Jane,
Put down an old or dollar store plastic shower liner (or something similar) in your bath tub, make a paste with baking soda and water. Rub it on the rack wires then let it sit for a few hours. Overnight if possible. Fill the tub with hot water and some dishwashing soap to clean it off. Rinse and dry. It should be like new again. Wishing you the best.
You can remove and scrub in sink with soft scrub or if really bad put outside and spray with oven cleaner, let it work, then hose off.
put outside on tarp/plastic/newspaper spray with oven cleaner or you can do it in your tub use blue can for this & ventilation put towel down in tub so you do not scratch it up with the racks. oven cleaner won't hurt porcelain, acrylic,or fiberglass tubs don't use in copper, marble other
Here's several ideas, hope one helps you out

For standard cleaning, use a soapy sponge and hot water to wipe the racks. For stubborn messes, soak oven racks in hot water, dish soap, and a couple scoops of baking soda. Let the racks soak in this mixture for 15 to 30 minutes before scrubbing clean with a soft sponge.
I've used a plastic garbage bag, placed the racks in them, poured in a bit of ammonia and let them sit overnight. Cleaned them right up with minimal effort.
Place the racks outside on a surface that you don't mind getting soiled. Apply a can of oven cleanser to the racks and allow it to sit there for approximately ten minutes. Now give them a thorough cleaning with a steel sponge, and then rinse them out with water.
Hello Jane, hope this helps you.
