Personally I think she's right.
Yeah I think your friend is right also.
looks like a corn plant stalk to me. With TLC it could possibly re-sprout, don't over water and be patient
Corn plants (Dracaena fragrans Massangeana)there are a few varieties( all green leaves tolerates less light--yellow striped needs brighter light); it might resprout worth at least trying--- looks like it has not been ever watered or cared for correctly & hardly ever; need to water thoroughly then dry completely and give it some water soluble miracle grow 2x year keep in very bright light, since it doesn't have any leaves that would burn full sun might even help it get started(as soon as it sprouts remove from direct sun , no temps under 55 and no cold winds drafts(inside) they prefer to be kept in good draining smaller pot and rootbound, need to check root system to see if it has one & how much it is damaged to see if it can be saved. Soaking the stalk/cane/roots in bucket of water will help rehydrate it before you put in good healthy potting soil, this is how they are actually started in nurseries.if you can do stalk soaking in clean water or watering with filtered water is good/best because these plants are very sensitive to fluoride & boronFluoride accumulation prevents proper closing of the stomates (the openings in the leaves which help them “breathe”) and the result – tip burn.
Plants growing in the nursery, have stored plenty of nutrients within the cane to sustain the plant for a long time. As a Dracaena acclimates to their new indoor environment, their food requirements are greatly reduced since the metabolism of the plant is slowing down.
I just showed the picture to a local florist she told me to take it put it in a bucket with filtered water because they are sensitive to fluoride and then in a few day or even a week to re lot in miracle grow potting soil she said it might start growing again I figured its worth a try thank you both very much for your advice I am much more knowable on what I have I appreciate you taking the time and going into so detail for me it helped me a lot I'm going to try and save it if it works I will post a picture thank you again
