Hello Pat,
Damp, shady Well drained and slug and snail free planting area.
Here's an article that might help - https://www.almanac.com/plant/hostas
Once established, that just take occasional watering when it has been real dry, they are very drought tolerant and naturally shade the ground to help it stay moist. They need little to no sun and don't tolerate full sun very well unless it is the kind that can take full sun. While they are getting established you will need to keep them a little more moist. I give them a little extended release fertilizer in the spring when they first start popping up and no more and they seem to be very happy the rest of the year. If they start getting too crowded you can easily divide the clumps in the spring when they first start coming up and replant the extras in other parts of the garden where needed or give them to someone who needs some.
Hostas are pretty forgiving. Just water them every other day or after two or three days. They lasts long.
Hope it helps! Bushra
