How can we get rid of weeds without killing the grass?
We had a guy treat our lawn. When he sprayed the weeds they died, but so did the grass. What can we do to generate regrowth of our grass while keeping weeds out? I would like ideas for safe non-commercial products if possible.

I would call the guy back. He should be held responsible and correct it. If he killed the grass it may not come back. I don't know of any homemade recipes that will kill weeds and feed the grass. Most recipes kill everything.
Dont know of any. We used Preen, it has worked pretty well.
Not a surprise there. The best defense against weeds is to maintain a lush healthy lawn. What is the current state of your lawn now? Are you watering on a regular basis? Or is it all dead grass and weeds?
over seeding grass helps keep weeds from growing;hand pulling the weeds when they are little/young easy to pull; uses preemergents here are some organic products https://www.arbico-organics.com/category/weed-control-and-prevention
It doesn't sound to me like the 'lawn guy' service was professional, if you paid for lawn care, and this was the result.
If you were gypped by a fly-by-night outfit, I would suggest that you contact the BBB, or at least leave a negative review on Yelp.
