Hello Mindy,
Had you thought to Use a concrete stain or Floor paint to give it a new look. You could even layout a design to make it look like slabs using a tape and a long handled roller for the paint.
Start with a frame - posts set into concrete with lateral supports. For the cover part- use lattice with a green sun shade cloth to help give more shade.
Before we we had our back porch built, we also placed a few 10x10 pop up canopies.
Or if you have trees, do some triangle shaped shade covers.
Posts and sail/shade cloths.
This one used lattice on the top, then you could either put a sail cloth over it for more shade or grow grapes or vines on it if you like that look. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/decks/diy-covered-patio-9012659
