How do I safely kill weeds growing in very dry ground?
We got a 90s manufactured home that needs a LOT of work but has a big back yard for our 3 doggies that we're thrilled about. One thing I'm not at all thrilled about is all the weeds. Big prickly weeds and the stickers are horrible on puppy toes (mine too when they track them in). If we cut them down they'll grow right back and pulling or digging them is next to impossible - the ground here is like cement - especially in the dry season. I've tried the vinegar/salt/dish soap that I've seen on here and it doesn't seem to phase them. I don't want to use commercial products because of the doggies - they chew on things in the yard. Any ideas? 😫

2 cups white vinegar
¼ cup salt
Squirt of dawn
Mix in a spray bottle. If you have a larger area, you can mix in a garden sprayer with larger quantities. Use when it will not be raining for a few hours so that it isn’t washed away.
I would use 2 cups vinegar, 1/4 cup Epson salt, Dawn (just a little), spray bottle and shake.
I’ve used extra strength vinegar & salt for years. You don’t even need the soap. It never fails! All the best.
Oh yes, these nasty weeds! I had them in Arizona. :( You can effectively use the formula suggested - it will work. Best of luck.
Boiling water and then vinegar, that should do them in!
There are a million recipes out there any one of them will work, but you must completely saturate the weed. A quick spritz does nothing - drown repeatedly. I don't bother with all the additives, I just use straight white vinegar in a pump sprayer.
Epsom salt vinegar dawn hot water. Be sure you drench to roots but be careful it kills anything and everything green and nothing will grow back for a very long time.. otherwise dig it up to include all the root if is really dry make sure to water soak first then did up!!

Try this. With protective shoes or boots, use your foot to push the top over to one side and mash to the ground to expose the stem. Then take a sharp, strong clipper and push it into the soil 4-5" below ground level around the stem and clip it off. Note where at least one of these was, so you can monitor if it came back. Also, if root below stem is super thick, try a tree branch lopper. Good luck!
