In your house? Or a backyard feature?
Hi, Nancy!
As an outdoor fire pit, it will be easy to build it using large rocks. Just lay the rocks in a circle, then add more on top placing them so they fit with the rocks below. If it is on a grassy surface, I would use weed killer inside the circle and around the outside to create a border. I hope this helps!
The veneer can be rock but you will want to build the area where the fire is built with fire brick.
One must use fire brick, on the chimney/flu, unless one buys a fireplace certified metal insert.
If you are talking about a house fireplace, I recommend a mason as there is a lot more structure to a fireplace than you realize...... plus there is the fire hazard and your insurance could be voided ..... a house with a fireplace has much higher insurance rates.
Hi Nancy, you can use the rocks on the facade, but you need heat resistant bricks for the actual fireplace.
