How about white washing it? https://thriftdiving.com/tutorial-how-to-paint-an-old-brick-fireplace/
Hi there,
You could always use a brick and tile paint all over and then if wanted pick out the pointing. You could White wash it (diluted emulsion paint) You could use a sealer to bring out the colour of the brick you have and leave a satin finish. You could have the whole thing rendered or just part ( the outside pillars or just the portion above the hearth and under the Timber shelf etc.) You might also look into the stain o the ceiling if you hadn't noticed it. BEST WISHES.
Thanks. The ceiling will be replaced soon.
The one on the left is what is looks like now and the one on the right is what it use to look like.this brick was over 50 years old.
all I did was get a primer (one coat did it) and then I painted it with a flat interior paint . Any color you want I used an light tan. And it took one coat.
These are great ideas for you. I just want to say that it really is a beautiful design....love the curve! Hope you get the look you want. Good luck!

Hi Carolyn. My suggestion is to give it a good cleaning with hot water and soap, a good stiff brush and rinse clean. When dry, lighten the grout with a flat paint that matches the lightest color of brick in the fireplace. It will completely transform the fireplace and still maintain the beauty of the wall. Good luck!
Thanks for all the great comments
I love the potential this fireplace and room have. I would paint all the brick white because it would really brighten up the room and then paint the mantel navy blue (or a color you love).
White wash, quick, easy and CHEAP for an amazing new look. I finally did our huge brick wall a couple years ago. Posted it here on Hometalk "massive brick fireplace white wash success"
here's a sneak peek
Painting that entire brick wall would look amazing.
