Here's a project that I did using the Versa tool. The only problem that I see with walnut is that it is so dark. I would test your tool on a scrap piece of wood to see if it will burn enough to be seen. You don't need to follow mine exactly. I used a round piece of wood, but a rectangle or even a square would also work. I used a stain/sealer combo, but you can use just a clear sealer to keep your project the same color as it looks when you're done. You can also use any pattern you like.
