Does someone you know give a lot of parties and need trays to carry food and drinks? How about making them a personalized tray? I started with a wood "pre-sanded" round board from Home Depot, but the first thing I did was sand it more with 240 sandpaper. Other supplies that I used include a name design created on my computer, pencils, scissors, a wood burner, left over stain/sealer combo, and handles for the tray. I didn't have everything in this picture, but you'll see them as we go.

I wiped off the sanded tray with tack cloth, then got working on my design. I used the "old-fashioned" way to transfer the design to the tray by rubbing over the printed areas on the back of the paper with a lead pencil.

I cut the pieces apart and positioned them on the tray. I lightly taped the edges of each piece so that they would stay in place.

Next, I started tracing the design. I only traced the outline of each letter

Once the design was traced, I started using the wood burner to burn each letter. When I got done, I decided to use a special tip to burn a heart around the words. I created a heart with paper and traced it with chalk around the edges then burned in the design.

Finished design.

At this point, I used my left-over stain/sealer to seal the tray. In the picture below, you can also see the handles that I used. Be careful when purchasing the handles. Regular drawer handles are not tall enough. I found these deeper handles on the bottom shelf at Lowes.

Here is the finished tray in it's new home. I do wish that the heart showed up more in the picture. You can see it fine in the real thing. This was an easy and fun project to create. If you have a wood burner, why not create a few with your own design for gifts this year? Happy crafting!
