DIY Updating a Dollar Store Pumpkin to Farmhouse Style Decor
I decided to see what I could do to update some of the foam pumpkins that are available in Dollar stores to a farmhouse style that I would like to decorate with for the fall season.
I started by removing the tag and the stem, which is a simple piece of styrofoam attached by a toothpick and some glue.
Then I added a light layer of white acrylic paint.
I wanted the orange to show through so that is why I chose to paint a light layer with acrylic paint as opposed to using spray paint etc.
Then I used a dry rag to wipe off a little more paint. I liked the overall look of letting a little more orange show through and smoothing out some of the brush strokes.
I chose to use a cinnamon stick as my new stem.
So I simply pushed it through the top of the pumpkin where I had removed the original stem.
I wanted it to be angled, so I simply held it in place and hot glued it while I held it at an angle until the glue set up.
Then I chose to add a buffalo check plaid bow to the stem to finish my farmhouse style pumpkin.
So adorable!
I absolutely love the finish result of this project.. so cute and fits in with my farmhouse style perfectly!
