Sherri....I would suggest painting with fall color and adding fall artificial flowers or leaves but some are large enough to add kitchen utensils to but may not be heavy enough to handle weight. Good luck
You can give it a vintage mercury glass look ... It is a fun easy project . You need to get Krylon looking glass spray paint , optional brown or bronze spray paint , a spray bottle with a mixture of equal parts of water and white vinegar ( about a half cup of each ) and some paper towels . First lightly spray the outside of the case with the looking glass paint , then immediately lightly spray with the water mixture then boot it here and there with a crumpled paper towel , let dry , it dries quickly , in just a few minutes . Then repeat the process 2-3 more times . Then if you want to give it a more aged , dirty look , lightly spray with the bronze spray paint ... Good it away a good distance , you just want to lightly just it ! If you want practice on a jar of vase from the dollar store , first . Have fun !!!!

Did a vase a couple of years ago to look like a piece of pottery. Tear pieces of masking tape and put on the vase. No particular pattern. Just cover the whole thing with bits of tape. Then paint, not too heavily; kind of like a wash. Use brown or reddish brown that would look like piece of pottery you found and glued back together. A coat of mod podge will protect finish.
OR:
You can tear pieces of wrapping paper and glue/mod podge onto vase. First some glue painted on and paper placed and a coat of glue over that. Do the whole thing like that and cover whole vase with another coat of mod podge. You can make mod podge by mixing 50/50 white glue(Elmer's etc) and water. It dries clear.
Remember you can't wash outside of vase after either of these. If you don't like the colors anymore you can soak it, remove the paper and do some other style.
