Remove all hardware, doors and drawers. Wash down with TSP. Sand off sheen. If already painted stay with the same type of paint, I'll or latex. If stained. Prime with oil based primer, lightly sand again, apply 2 coats of oil based paint. Spray if you can for nicer finish.
Take your door to the local paint store.
i prefer Sherwin Williams because of their knowledge but you can go anywhere you want.
They will tell you the best paint they have to achieve the look you want. I personally used a self leveling latex and the look turned out well.
They recommended it over an oil based paint for my kitchen cabinets. They have paint on sale on a regular basis so just ask when the next sale is and
buy your paint then even if your time to accomplish the makeover is two months away.
