Space Saver: Cutting Counter Clutter
Hi Deborah - This is one of my favorite articles on cleaning, organizing and decluttering. It really breaks down the steps of the process, and even includes an interview with TV show Hoarders star Matt Paxton. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

Downsizing several times Ive learned to maximize all available storage options. In the kitchen maximize cupboard storage utilizing various storage bins baskets and elevating wire racks in all cabinets above and below countertops. You might consider using the backside of the cabinet door too. Purge the things you dont need or store other things that you don’t use often in another area of the house....like under the bed, garage or basement closet. Put you beds on risers and use low profile totes and spacebags under the beds. Switch out summer and winter wardrobes. Some people use storage Ottomans or trunks as coffetables to hide extra items as well. Lastly the beds with drawers below the mattress are options too.

Watch "tidding" on Netflix or maybe you tune. Start with one Rom or purpose. Say Clothes for example then say blankets, lien, summer, winter items, etc.
The key is to donate everything you do not love. Most of us have a ton of things we really do not need. Start in one room and donate or trash what you don't love. Organize what is left into clear bins with labels. Simplify is the key to organizing.
I usually make 3 piles: Keep, donate, and trash. I ask myself if I am going to miss it...is there sentimental value. If so, I keep it. If not, I ask myself if it is useful...will someone else use it. If so, donate. If not, I throw it away. I hope this is helpful!
Hi Deborah, start by sorting, keep, donate, toss, donating is also a feel good for you, remember that when you are sorting, , what you don't want and can't donate goes to trash, start in one area and work it until it;s done, like a bedroom, once it is done, you can use that room to sort other items from kitchen, etc. invest in cube shelves, they really help with organizing and you can hide small items by using the cube drawers.
You need 3 bins, 1 for donate, 1 for keep, and 1 for trash. Start by deciding if you love it or not, if you do you keep it, if you can do without it then donate it. Clutter weighs you down. You won't believe how good you feel when you get rid of half of the clutter.
Donate all books that you have already read to a local library. In my experience with helping others to downsize, folks hang on to books, both paper backs and hardcovers, for way way too long. If you are thinking that you may want to re-read a particular book again some day, open a file on your computer recording the name of the book and the author. If that day ever comes, you can borrow it (hard copy) free from a public library, or (also free!) read it on-line.

You will need to go through everything first. Decide what you are keeping/trashing/and donating. I would use large plastic bins you can see through to organize what you are putting back in the closet. Hooks on the door or a shoe rack on the doors will help too!
I take everything out of a space or a room and then only put back what I really need or items that are very special.
