How can I replace the ugly laminated kitchen counters in a rental?
This ugly laminated kitchen top is an eyesore. Any suggestions what I can use to replace the kitchen surface of my rental kitchen at an affordable price.

Izelda...You can find wood look close to that color of contact paper. I would try that. Good luck
Before doing anything, contact your landlord in writing and send "signature required" so there is a record of it. Alert him that the surface of the counter top is de-laminating, exposing the particle board underneath. This is not a safe surface for food prep as germs will seep into the particle board. Request that he replace the counter top.
Give the landlord a something like a 30 day timeline for him to do this work which is required for you to have a safe place to live. Let him know that if he does not replace it, you will purchase a laminated counter top to replace in kind what is already there and that you will deduct the cost of it and the installation from your rent.
You really shouldn't have to deal with this at your own expense!
Home Depot carries a wood grain, thin laminate that comes on a roll & looks a lot like what you have now.
Robyn (above) has the right idea. As a renter, YOU should not have to do anything. However, in the mean time, I would cover it with a temporary patch - like Contac Paper or even a wood or plastic cutting board so that you don't have to see it -- and to prevent it from getting worse. The counter should be replaced by a professional.
