Is it the right time of year to plant mums now?
I live in the Atlanta area in Georgia, and the evening temperatures have already gotten down into the 30’s. Is it safe to plant them now?

Hi Jackie, whenever I have questions on anything plant related I always head to the farmer's almanac. I tried planting mums in the fall here in northern MN but our climate is just way too harsh. I think you'll be good to go in Georgia though: https://www.almanac.com/news/gardening/life-garden/chrysanthemums-when-plant-mums
I would probably not plant them anymore this year... once there is a danger of a hard frost at night, it'll just harm them.
You’ll have to cover them at night and water them with warm, not hot, water.
It’s going to be a bad winter north of you and I’m not sure how Atlanta is going to be.
Hey, Jackie. I'm from Atlanta, too, although now I live in Huntsville, AL, just a little north of you, but still in the same planting zone I think. There are two kinds of mums -- annuals and perenials. Make sure you get perenials, because sometimes they aren't marked and you have to ask.
I buy perenials every fall for the large pots by our front walkway. Once we get a hard freeze that ruins the flowers, I transplant them in a flower bed, cut them back to the ground, and water them. The roots do not seem to be affected, as each year they have come back. My "mum bed" is growing!
