We use clear peanut butter jars. Just nail the lids into a stud and you can see what is inside the container without having to stop and open it to take a peek. One for screws, one for nails, etc.
I use small clear plastic food containers to store various sizes of screws and nails in my junk drawer. Always handy and ready to be used.
I've seen people screw the tops of jars into the bottom of a shelf and then fill the jars with screws/ nuts, etc., and then they twist onto the caps. http://www.crookedbrains.net/2011/07/creative-cool-reuses-of-jars.html

I don't have a photo, but I took one of those old tool boxes that have the library-style pull out containers. I spray-painted it a pretty color, and then used chalkboard paint to mark each of the sections. I hope this makes sense and hope it helps with some inspiration!

We stack them in plastic food containers from the $1 store and label on the ends with painters tape.
My husband uses old prescription bottles and labels them :)
Baby food jars or something that size...lid nailed to bottom of shelf and bottom jar with nails/screws screwed in.
For the nuts and screws, I use old prescription bottles with the child proof caps, label them. For the bigger items, I use dollar store containers, sometimes you can pick them up at yard sales, just be sure they are durable enough to contain what you need to store and organize.
My husband stores these in plastic bins, coffee cans and many fishing boxes.
