What are the advantages of having a double bowl sink?
We are prepping to start the big kitchen remodel. Our current sink is divided into two sections and I hate it. The plan is to switch to a sink with no dividers. For those of you who have already done this, are you still happy with it? I am hoping to avoid finding after it's too late that I was happier with the divided sink...Thanks!

Hi Lynn. I have a divided sink and we were all set to get a giant basin one, but ran into a problem when installing it, so we had to go back to the old, divided one. I have to say, I was actually glad. For the short time we had it in the house, the big basin didn't give me that separation I love...dirty dishes on one side and we can still wash our hands or rinse veggies in the other, etc. However, all that being said, I'm sure you'd get used to whatever you install and since you stated that you hate the two sections you currently have, you'll probably love the open basin. It's really a personal preference. Best of luck with your remodel!
I love it and use a dishpan when I wash dishes. Unless they are large items, then I use the full sink. I hated going back to a double sink.
We will soon be changing our double stainless sink out as well. And I am pretty sure I want a double sink again. I really like being able to wash in one, rinse in the other
I agree with Annie I have had both and prefer a double sink. Dishes in one side and able to wash veggies in the other. You can get sinks where the sides are different sizes and depths. Found one where the left side is deeper and larger then the right side. Comes in so handy!
Hi Lynn,
We have both along the many years and houses/apts. I love a divided sink, as the above have said, dirty on 1 side to be washed and drain on the other. It is also great for home canning, produce prep, even a minor wash of soiled clothes. It also allows the counter space to be free of dishes waiting to be put away.
Hi Lynn, here are the pros and cons of the sink dilemma. Good luck Remodeling 101: Single-Bowl Vs. Double-Bowl Sinks in the ...
Nov 15, 2018 - What are the pros of a double-bowl sink? It's ideal for washing dishes by hand. You can separate dirty dishes from food prep. The garbage disposal is always accessible. The size and profile can be cumbersome. It eats up under-counter storage space. Ironically, it can mean less space for washing large items.
Think about how you use your sink on a daily basis and if a single bowl, one with different sized dividers, or a divided bowl will best fit your needs. I personally like the ability to stop up one side and use the other but if thats not a priority to you, get what will work best.
Hi Lynn,
Do you have a dishwasher? If so you will not require a double bowl sink, unless your partner wants to use it for cleaning there Paint brushes etc.
