Is a storage unit suitable for storing electronic equipments?
Hi,I'm planning for a 2 months trip to India. I'm want to make this new year a ravishing one. But there is no one to look after my home belongings. So I plan to go for a home storage solution in Caledon. There are many types of equipment that need to be stored in a climatically controlled storage solution. I think this will keep my belongings safe.Has anyone used this kind of storage solutions before? Is it good for storing electronic equipments? It's my first time using this kind of storage unit. So I'm not much sure of this. Share your suggestions. Thanks!

My experience with my grand piano being stored in a climate controlled storage unit was that their definition of “climate controlled” was bogus. It warped my tuning board and cost me about $2,000 USD have my grand piano restored.
Therefore, I would consider putting my electronics in lidded plastic bins with moisture-absorbing packets (desiccant) in them.
If there is any evidence of rodents, they like chewing on wires and the bins will be useful for that as well.
I would also verify their level of “climate control” and look into buying some insurance on your contents.
I would check with other customers to make sure there are no moisture issues. Also get insurance, just in case. My son stored some furniture and electronics in a climate controlled unit for 18 months with no issues. I worked next door to one and it flooded. I could hear unhappy customers outside my window arguing if they didn’t have insurance but the facility wasn’t responsible.
If you live in a particularly cold area, you might run into trouble. Some electronics shouldn't be stored in below-freezing temperatures. I carry my Kindle in my purse and I'm outside a lot in winter, and I was able to look up what temperature it was supposed to be stored at and the possible side effects of not keeping it at those temperatures. Perhaps you could look up the individual items you have to see if they will be okay?
I believe this is a duplicate question. I answered the other post.
Hi, William!
We currently have electronics and musical instruments stored in a climate controlled unit with no issues. It may be best to check out the reviews on the storage facilities in your area to find the best one for your needs. Have a great trip - I hope this helps!
Climate controlled doesn't necessarily mean comfortable for human habitation. It usually means preventing freeze and extreme hot but there will still be significant temperature swings. I would put everything up on pallets and wrap to protect from moisture and dust.
You’ll need to find what they mean by climate controlled as I imagine different venues define it differently.
Hi William,
If you can fit your items into large Plastic storage boxes or pack them in polystyrene and cardboard boxes. Don't just leave them in the room without protecting them. Think of how they were stored by the manufacturer and that should be a good guide. Best wishes for your trip!
Yes climate controlled storage unit will keep your electronics in good condition. I had a friend who stored his belongings for 2 years and everything worked fine when he reclaimed his belongings.
I would recommend a climate controlled storage. Most storage spaces have concrete floors which hold a lot of moisture. When storing electronic devices dry is important.
