How can I stain Formica?
I live at a retirement village and have butcher block look, light colored, Formica counter tops. I really am to old to do a major project myself, but, can I stain these countertops to simply make them darker?

If you want a no-extra-cost non-monolithic finish on your plastic laminate paint system, (as in two-tone)
after proper prep-work, roll out the chosen color, let it dry.
Then wipe off the edge of the can and put the lid back on and take it back to paint store & have them add a “squirt or two” of another color in the same paint-system.
This gives you a two-toned effect for the price of one can!
Buy either a faux sponge paint roller cover or buy a wide chip brush and cut into it like the hairdresser texturizes bangs - this is to make a “dry brush” effect.
Then apply the second two-tone color with either the sponge roller or the dry-brush and be prepared to dab or adjust it as you go and full in the corners later.
Hello Gayle,
No! is the simple answer, it will not take a stain!
