I prefer going with a theme that he won't outgrow too soon. An outer space them with glow in the dark stars on the, or transportation themed with trucks and planes and trains or a rocks and bugs theme. Follow his interests and avoid too much cartoonish looks.
Is there something he’s really into? Use that as a theme and get some wall art and painted furniture to help bring it together.
Jessie....What does you son like? along with colors? I would suggest you include him. So many cute ideas and if you kinda use a big boy touch if can remain for a few years. You can think sports, games, Disney, etc. The two of you can have a great time doing this together. Send pics when you finish. Good luck and have fun.
I would choose a theme. Something that he likes or a show he is into
