Hi Ellen,
You could hang drapers that could be opened to the sides, leaving the door fully exposed when you want to use it or covered when you want privacy. Some people like bamboo on their glass doors / windows. Another option would be window clings that let in the light be will give some privacy. (the come in door sizes) Here's a link to the door clings/film that are listed on Amazon to give you and idea of what is available. Wishing you the best.

Most hardware stores sell a see-through adhesive plastic that reflects light. Effectively turning your sliding glass door into a one way mirror. You can easily put this up yourself in a matter of minutes and, using a knife, you can shape the plastic into any odd shapes or corners you might need. When you move out you can simply peel it off or just leave it up because most people appreciate the privacy anyway.
Warning you must be careful at night, because the material reflects light on one side and allows visibility through the other side. When its sunny outside nobody will be able to see inside, however when it's dark out and you have the lights on indoors you will see the mirror and people outside will be able to see in. (Limo windows work similarly.) The plastic is naturally tinted so this isn't that big of a problem at night and it works perfectly during the day.
Thank you!!
Ellen: maybe this will help

Hi Ellen. You could use stickers on your sliding glass doors. Stickers have come a long way in the last few years. You can look at them on Amazon or at Home Depot. Good luck Ellen.
Maybe the film that sticks to the glass itself. They come in all sorts if designs or even frosted for privacy.
Roman shades could be a option for you.
Rabbitgoo makes a cling window covering that applies with water. If you want to remove, you peel back with no residue left behind. They have several patterns, many that will allow light to pass through but some are available like stained glass.
Hi ! Home depot or Lowe's well stick on glass coverings , some just shade or frostof
the window/door , others are just purely decorative .
Hi Ellen, if for privacy but you still want the light, how about a semi transparent film, here are a few ideas
