How do I clean smoke covered walls/ceilings that are painted?
I asked this question a little while ago but then got sidetracked by something else and I don't know how to get back to that answer. How do I clean smoke-covered ceilings and walls?

What can we use to clean soot and smoke from walls and ceilings?
Christine, I lived with a wood stove for a couple of years and the resulting horror of smoke damage throughout my main floor was just a nightmare. Here's how I fixed it: https://www.grandmashousediy.com/smoke-damage/
I did NOT wash my walls and ceilings like it is often suggested. I did wipe them down with a broom and dry rag though, getting the worst of it. From there I used a really good primer and then painted. I have had no bleed through since.
Paint over then with kilz primer to trap it in and then paint over with the color of your choice
Kilz works well for this; it really does seal and trap any kinds of stains, etc. You may have to do a couple of coats
Wipe down with OdoBan to clean, disinfect, and eliminate odors. You can prime with Kilz Original (oil based) if you want to re paint and seal.
you need to use TSP to clean the walls before painting or anything else you can find it at Lowes and Home Depot or any hardware type store. Follow directions on the box then you are ready to use paint or Kilz to cover up any stains before painting. Also to get the odor out of the house, take 1 cup white vinegar and 4 cups water and boil on low on stove and it remove most of that odor.
