How can we update our entryway?
Hi all,4 doors ( from left to the right): garage door, entry door, closet so small I can put only 4 hangers with coats, bathroom pocket door. It is crammed and there are 4 doors in one area! Also I would like to bring more color in our home ;) tired of beige walls. The space is ajacent to our kitchen and dining area. I was thinking to paint with contrast horizontal lines to make the space visually spacious. Starting with the wall on the right. Does it make sense at all with so many doors on the way?

Hello Olena!
Does the door next to the mirror lead to the kitchen? If so, I would remove the door to visually open up the space. It looks like it may be a pocket door--leave it open! I would also consider moving the bench and mirror so that the space is less cluttered. (it really is NOT cluttered but removing those items will also open up the space visually) Perhaps a smaller round mirror. Just a few thoughts! I know you will get LOTS more helpful ideas!
Hi Olena! I love GK idea of removing the pocket door or leaving it open as well! Instead of the mirror maybe a smaller canvas print. Also White makes everything look light and bright! That would also be a great color to make the area feel more open. :) Hope that helps!
Hello I would suggest an art on both sides of the entry door and a more elegant colorful patterned decorative rug inside the door.
I agree with getting rid of the beige. I'd paint a light gray and use a deeper color on all 4 doors.
Think light and bright. Lighter paint colors that reflect light vs warmer colors that absorb color. A new coat of paint, a bright sparkly light fixture, a lighter, brighter rug, cover the bench in a bright coordinating pattern if you use it. If you don’t really use the bench consider replacing it with a small mirrored chest or table. Please share the after photos!
Olena: I think you can do horizontal stripes --- but I would include the doors in the pattern too!!!
That is a cramped space. I agree horizontal lines would visually open up the area. I would paint horizontal stripes in light and dark shades of the same color. You have a kitchen pass thru with items on the floor on the far right. I would consider removing the original small closet and building one where the pass thru is. The depth of the wall with the items hanging and about 2' wide.
I would paiint the entry white or a VERY light color. Your idea of horizontal stripes is a good one but I'd use the same color and paint one stripe with flat paint and the next with a satin or shiny finish for just a bit of change and as was recommended by another, go right over the pocket door and the entryway door. I'd remove the door to the coat closet and build shelves there to store items in colorful or rattan baskets to open the space and create some interest. Maybe upgrade or use an LED bulb for the light in the ceiling. The last thing I would do is find a large round colorful rug that will fit the space.
I would paint the entryway Agreeable Gray at 50% and do the doors and trim in White Semigloss including the front door to make it brighter. Definitely remove the closet door and put shelves in and then put baskets on the shelves for storage. Take down the mirror and put a nice art piece on that wall. The flooring is dark, get a lighter rug or change out the flooring for lighter tiles.
I would look at the post. Elsie's entryway was dark and somewhat gloomy before she added this wallpaper:

Here's a link to what I did with my hall that had lots of doors. Maybe it will give you some ideas. Also, I would paint the inside of the entry door white to open up the space and make it more cohesive. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/walls/stenciled-hallway-finally-finished-21898529
Banishing the Boring Narrow Hallway
Grays would look nice with a white ceiling, remove the mirror and put up something that makes a statement and would complement your newly covered bench. The bench is a practical piece of furniture and is good where it is, a place to sit down and put shoes on. The closet needs the door removed and put in shelves, also an area for hanging shoes. You could add color by putting fabric covers on the baskets. The lighting needs updating, maybe with a ceiling fan.
Paint the entry door white to match the others. You might even consider doing a faux design on the bathroom door to mimic the rest to the doors or replace it with a matching door. I really like Williams idea of building a larger closet.
I would paint everything the same colour Add a jazzy rug so that is the first thing people see. Very little distraction on the walls if you have the room a small table with a very interesting vase on it and that’s all. Good luck
I would remove the mirror and put something smaller. Here is a post on wall paper post and how to apply it. It made a difference in my dining room and open it up. https://www.simplenaturedecorblog.com/dining-room-wallpaper-ideas-video/
I would paint it a light and neutral color. I would add a fun rug. I would replace the mirror with a smaller mirror or a piece of artwork
I think the stripes would be so fun!
