Hi, I would like to know how to repel mice instead of trapping them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To repel mice, you can use mothballs, ammonia, or fabric softener sheets.

Using Peppermint is another Natural Way to Repel Mice. Mice don't like mint, so start cleaning with mint-scented solutions, or add a few drops of mint essential oil to your all-purpose cleaner. You also can pulverize peppermint Altoids, and sprinkle them around mice nesting areas. To keep mice away from your house, plant mint around your foundation.

The way to get rid of mice is prevention, go around the outside of your house and take a look. Make sure to inspect doors, windows, and foundations for any cracks and holes. They are small and flexible and can chew and wiggle through next to nothing. Fill in all that you find. DIY stores have a spray foam that will cut their faces if they try to chew through. Mice are good at climbing so close off any areas where the pipes and wires enter and exit the house. To repel them use peppermint essential oil.

As far as using electronic devices to repel them, I am unsure, really how can you tell that a mouse was repelled. There are lots of companies that claim they have had success, I am a skeptic.

    Hello there,

The best way I know is to borrow a cat. They are great at finding them and dispatching them too. Best wishes.

A good mouse prevention technique is to fill any holes where the mice can get in with steel wool. This can be anywhere from air vents to holes in your kitchen cupboards. This will stop any mouse from trying to enter your home. Mice are known to be able to chew through almost anything, especially if they think food is on the other side, but they can’t chew through steel wool.

I have been able to get rid of them at our farmhouse, even when we bushhog, by using a combination of peppermint & cinnamon oil. I purchased a spray off Amazon but have seen it at Ace Hardware. It can be sprayed to saturate cotton balls. Place around the area and make sure to re-apply as the scent fades. They don’t like the smell. I’ve been told it can be toxic to pets.

Mice seem to love kitchens because that is where food is, and warmth too. I saw a mouse at our old house. I had a cat the same day. I still have the cat. She's so sweet. If you cannot have a cat, keep the house very clean, especially the kitchen and pantry. Also, food in the garbage will attract them.

Hi, this is Peggy. To deter mice, do not leave food or seed where they can get it. Plug all holes in your foundation, they get in the littlest places. Good luck and stay well.

If you know someone with a cat, ask them to save the hair they brush off their cat. Get several envelopes, put some cat hair in, seal, and poke some holes in the envelopes. Lay it down around your bottom cabinets. This works, they smell the cat and take off, permanently. Good Luck!

There is a soap called Irish Spring with green stripes running through it. They say it works in motorhomes.

You can use Tea Tree oil on cotton and fill the holes with that.

I heard from a friend that they use bounce dryer sheets. My friend puts them in the attic or anywhere he does not want the mice to get into. He said they don't like the smell and it has worked for him. Please do further investigating for I do not know if you have animals or small children to think of. He said they need to be the bounce ones though if you decide to try it.
