Hi Patty! First, decide if you are going to paint or stain, because that will determine how much of the old finish to remove. I like Citristrip for taking off the old finish. Then, I would sand it.
Hi Patty, I would sand the table with an orbital sander if you have one. It help with reducing the scratches a normal sander may leave behind.
Sand down your table with like a 220 Grit it will just take some of the gloss off of it and see how it looks
Hello. Removing the top layer of sealer would be the solution and I would suggest if it’s a clear sealer sanding to remove the glossy finish.
Hi ! I bought a product made by Krud Kutter , called a de glosser . I was re doing my oak cabinets . This was recommended to remove " the shine " from the cabinets before painting them . It worked well ! I found it at home depot for about $6 .

Hi Patty. Sanding your piece will remove the gloss. Also a liquid sander will do the same thing.
liquid sandpaper or deglosser would work.

Have you thought about sanding the shine down? I would test an area which is not noticeable and see what happens.
TSP solution should do it.

light sanding will for sure help
If you just want to remove the shine you could use fine sand paper and take it of that way it will get you down to the wood
You'll want to sand it down with sand paper
