Hi! I just made two with hand sewing, because I wanted to try a couple of things that I do better by hand. It is more time consuming than by machine, but, the important thing I found is to take small, even stitches, It is important to have two layers of breathable fabric. Even a tshirt works for this. I used thin elastic, similar to shoelaces for the ear pieces. You could even use elastic ponytail bands if they are large enough. Put it together the same way the pattern directs, just hand stitch each part. Don't use really long thread, since it will only tangle and get in your way. Try for twelve inches or less. Keep in mind that stitches will show on the finished side so try to keep them small and even. Make sure you have good lighting and take your time. With your starting stitch if you push the needle back up through the end where your knot is, it will tighten the stitch so the knot doesn't pull through. Don't pull too much with each stitch to avoid pucker. Good luck and stay well!

Generally you can achieve same result by hand as a machine using an even running stitch. Just go slow and take your time. Up and down wherever they said to use a machine. It just takes longer.

I folded a small scarf or bandana into thirds then used pony tail holders on each end. You can fold over the ends around the elastics and use a safety pin to hold it in place.
