Can you build a wall around it Penny? You would probably need an access door. Or perhaps a moveable folding screen. You could hang some decorative things on the folding screen.

Hi Penny. You could hide your water heater behind shutters. You're going to need tall shutters. Attach shutters together using hinges. Three hinges for each shutter, top, middle, and bottom. Once all the hinges are connected, you stand it up in a jig-jag pattern. If you ever need to work on your water heater, just fold the screen flat and store it under your sofa. Good luck Penny. Stay healthy and well.
Bi-fold doors might be an option.

A easy way would be to box it in using a decorative screen. Something like this.https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQP17W4vx_OIGS0T4t-hNsSAvcN3jMcRqHxWLP0r5qnr9Ty41Qe&usqp=CAU
Hello Penny,
Build an airing cupboard around it. Frame out the walls and use ply or mdf to fill in the sides. Make a door or use a curtain fabric or beaded. Best wishes.

What about making a moveable screen around it out of bifold doors? You can get them affordably at reuse building Centers.
You can put a changing screen around it. Add lattice panels or louvered doors would be another option. If you have a farmhouse kitchen, you could do chicken wire in wooden panels and add decor to the wire.
I've seen them built into cabinets and small closets with a louvered door. Just make sure you have access and can disconnect and move it when needed. Good luck and stay safe!
