Embed small stones in lucite and then slice the block?
I have a hoard of beautiful stones from nickle-size to orange-size, all colors, extremely varied types including fossils. Is it possible to embed them in lucite and then slice the block?

I find info about how to display stones and fossils but several things I found said not to use lucite on them. Here is some info I found that may help you. I would suggest talking to someone that works in a gem store that may have ideas about this.

Hi Noni, Yeah I believe so. You are talking about epoxy resin pouring I think. Embedding your rocks etc and then you would pour the resin. You want really good resin for this so not to yellow especially when you are talking about using your beautiful stones. This is the resin that I would use if I were you for your project to prevent any yellowing:

Yes, to answer your question, you can cut resin with a woodworking saw.....bandsaw, scrollsaw, table saw etc.....just like you can with plexiglass. Beware there is more dust so make sure you are outside or you have some heavy duty dust collection system set up into place and wear a mask.
If I totally missed the mark on your question because you asked about Lucite....(you may have been talking about an already existing lucite piece of furniture) ...please let us know and clarify! Good luck on your project!
I did mean epoxy resin pouring. Thanks for the replies folks. I have visions of making items such as tabletops and shelves...
Hello Noni,
You would need to use an Acrylic Resin to Set the Stones and when completely dry. Hire or buy a Stone Cutter, Goggles and other safety items to slice it, Better still might be to enquire with a Stone Mason if you were to do what you intend, could they slice it for you?
Best of luck!
