I am having the same problem with one of my azaleas. I think you are correct. They need to be in more sun for it to flourish. Ours isn't dying, but like you said, its not growing. Can you find another spot in the yard that has more sun and relocate?
Hi Frances,
Here's a link that might help you and your Azaleas, especially the section on How to Grow Azaleas:

Azaleas like at least 4 hours of sun each day. They also like nitrogen - try a fertilizer with nitrogen in the early spring or late summer.

Miracle Grow makes Miracid, which I used to give my azaleas.
My best growing azaleas are in shade so I don't think that is it. Are you feeding it? I use miracle gro for acid loving plants every 2 weeks in growing season and they have responded well. Also, if you are a coffee drinker or have access to grounds you can add those around the base. When I was working, I would bring home coffee grounds from the office and mine took off that year. Not sure which caused the growth. But since we are WFH now but I'm still feeding, maybe I can see.
Hello. I have the exact same situation. I planted two exactly the same species azaleas on opposite corners 20-30 ft apart of the homes foundation.
One bush is huge and the other one -it’s like a tiny baby. For some reason the growth was stunted on one plant I’m not too sure why. I hope you find the solution you’re looking for I’m curious to why this happens. Happy gardening.
Try amending soil with pine needles or coffee grounds. Remove some to the top soil and put in some of either or a good potting soil or one that has fertilizer pellets included.
Yes it needs about 80% sun try transplanting it
They need about 4 hours of full sun a day. If it isn't getting that, then you may need to move it.
