Avoid re-screening patio door?
This is the third time I’ve re-screened my patio door slider. Do you have any suggestions on how to prevent the dog and the grandchildren from pushing on the screen portion as they try to exit

I have us3d lattice work and command hooks to hang it over the bottom half of the screen door. This has worked for my cats—not sure about dogs.
Hello Sharon,
Maybe use a fine metal mesh instead of fabric one. Best wishes
Sharon... lattice attached with heavy, outdoor velcro would probably work too!
Put a metal or wooden guard over the screen. The metal ones were very common when I was a kid. I thought they were decorative back then but as an adult I’m sure they were preventative maintenance.
We ended up glueing a wood bar across our door where the grandkids hands pushed. We painted it to match the door. Not the most beautiful fix but last year we had to repair the screen 4 times!
Petco sells a screen gard to put over the screen so they don’t push through it
You could also get one of those screens you put up with the split in the middle and the magnets you could get it on eBay this way you could leave your screen open and leave that hanging it hangs by Velcro.
Hi Sharon, sorry you are having to re-screen your patio door. Have you tried hanging something from you door to remind you dog and grandchildren the door is closed? Hope this will help you..
Hi! Our Lab tore ours until I bought screening labeled for pets. It's a much heavier mesh and I bought a roll at the hardware store. A protective lattice or metal guard would work, too. The kids never damaged ours, but my father-in-law pushed it completely out when he walked into it. Good luck and stay safe!
They do make screen guards which work pretty good. I received a split screen with magnets like they advertise to review. Worked much better!
we bought a pet proof screen because our cats and also squirrels kept shredding ours - here is the info and we have had it up for about 10 yrs without any problems https://www.amazon.com/DocaScreen-Pet-Screen-Resistant-enclosures/dp/B07WHTZ1VP
We've always used hardware cloth, 1/4" grid. We used to be able to buy it at hardware stores cut to any length.

Thanks for your suggested solution. I actually have hardware cloth. We’ve used it to sift the shells and stones out of our little beach strip.
So it will be t he hardware cloth or lattice that I use as my solution.
Thanksso much to all the Hometalk community for their input on my problem.
