How to clean metal edge strips on stairs??
Help! The house I purchased recently was in fabulous condition except for the metal strips on the basement stairs. I don’t know where to start to clean them! I don’t have any of my late husband’s tools anymore to cut and replace them. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

If they are like the metal strips I have on my stairs there are little grooves running lengthwise that collect dirt and grime. Maybe you an use a old toothbrush and some warm dishwater and scrub the grooves clean. If the metal has lost it's luster over time due to scuffing you won't get that shine back.
They are such a pain to clean! A firm bristled scrub brush and warm soapy water are likely your best bet.
I would suggest a scrub brush and perhaps some Dawn soap. I would just be careful, you want them to still have some grip if they are on the steps themselves, too slick and shiny would be a slipping hazard.
I had those on stairs once. They had ridges in them and I used an old toothbrush and soapy water.
Vacuum first and then use a brush and soap solution.
Hello Chriss,
Maybe, Wire wool or Metal Polish or Gunge cutter. Once you start it will become obvious which one is working for you!

A really good scrubbing will do a lot. Use a tooth brush to really get into any grooves, they are the worst part to clean.
I would use a stainless steel cleaner
Get Brillo and hot water and Brillo them they will come out nice
