How to fix one of the ceiling light?
Hi, I have around 9 ceiling lights and one of them suddenly stopped working.
I thought it might be the bulb issue and changed the bulb, but after changing as well the bulb was bright for 2-3 seconds then it went dim (like 5%) but not turned off. Tried it with another bulb too and same fate.
The other 8 bulbs are working fine and as expected. I also noticed sometimes when I opened the light the bulb went bright to 100% for 1-2 seconds and then dimmed back to 5% again. This has happened a total of 2-3 times since original dimming over last 7-10 days. I tried the dimmer and when other lights were 10% this bulb went to 0% (pls see the video https://www.dropbox.com/s/cw4pw6lhga2o6sk/IMG_3929.MOV?dl=0 at and pics attached)
So just to add all 9 bulbs were lit at same time correctly for months. this happened very recently.
Any suggestions what can be done there to fix this. Thank you

What type and intensity of light bulbs are they?
How many do you have connected to the dimmer switch?
Do you know if packaging the bulbs came in definitely said that they were dimmable, and if so, what is the maximum number of lumens or watts recommended for one dimmer switch?
If the light bulbs are LED, did the packaging on the dimmer switch definitely say that it was rated for LED bulbs?
You need dimmable rated bulbs if you have a dimmer. You could remove the dimmer and hook up a regular switch (temporarily). If the light works properly, then it is a dimmer problem. You may have too many lights (beyond wattage rating of the dimmer). If it still not working (with dimmer removed) then it can be a connection problem in the fixture.
Another first step is to remove a few other bulbs and see what this light does. If normal, then you have too many lights for your dimmer.
I agree with the idea of switching out the dimmer light switch with a regular one. My mom had all dimmer switches in her house and eventually had me take them all out because she had trouble finding bulbs she liked that worked with them.
It sounds like it is time to replace the fixture. I believe you have a short in it or the wiring. Is it the last fixture? If so, I would check the wiring. If not, then most likely it is the fixture.
Better safe than sorry. I'd call in an electrician. I've worked on too many houses after an electrical fire. Not a good thing.
HELLO,
SOUNDS AS IF IT HAS A BAD CONNECTION! COULD BE SOMETHING HAS GOTTON BENT OVER TIME, BUT iF YOU ARE NOT GOOD WITH ELECTRICS CALL AN ELECTRICIAN. BEST WISHES
Sounds as though you've done a good job of trouble-shooting the problem and now it's time to call in an electrician for safety's sake. You can inform the electriian of all your testing to save some time. Good Luck!
I wonder if there is wiring that is not touching 100% perfecting that is causing the dimming? It has to be in the electrical path since the bulbs are not the issue.
