Hi Clare. You should use adhesive to put the tiles on the wall. Once that's dry, you add grout. Remember, sanded grout is for floors and unsanded grout is used on walls. Once the grout is dry, start removing the excess with a large sponge. Continue until excess is gone. Next day shine it all up with a soft cloth. Good luck Clare.

I would use a construction adhesive.
I would use Loctite's Power Grab. I've had great success with it indoors & outdoors, water won't bother it. It does a long setting time so keep that in mind.
You can buy peel and stick tile sheets
You could use peel and stick tiles or use grout
