I run a cycle with liquid bleach every month. I also regularly wipe the inside of the door seal with vinegar. ALWAYS leave the door open.
I mix up warm water with Borax and wipe down every surface and gasket. Leave open as much as possible to keep mildew from building up. Run the clean cycle with bleach and another with just water.
If you already have mildew issues, white cleaning vinegar will kill the spores.

Run an empty load with only vinegar. Be sure to prop the door open between use so the machine can dry out.
Use a product called Refresh, then wash the rubber gasket with a dawn, white vinegar and water solution. I have found using oxy clean really helps with keeping the machine clean and smelling nice.
I agree about the OxyClean. I use OxyClean or Borax (only with color loads) and never have a problem. I also leave the door open so that the interior can dry.

I have a front load washer and have learned by experience to wipe the rubber gasket when the laundry is done, leave the door open and also leave the sliding detergent tray out and wipe dry.
Make sure you've downloaded and read your washer owner's manual, as some manufacturers advise against the use of bleach and vinegar. Also note that many newer front loaders require you remove the detergent drawer after laundering, to permit that area to fully dry. Don't forget to periodically drain water from the washer pump hose ( usually located behind a small door on the front lower part of the washer. Drying gaskets and leaving the door open should be a regular habit.
Hello. I would suggest looking at your manufacturers suggested guidelines. If you do not have the booklet I would check online and follow their instructions for best performance and care of your appliance.
A good tip is to keep the door cracked open to help it not get smelly
I run a few cups of white vinegar through the cycle and then I use a wet paper towel and wipe out the inside and then I wipe out the rubber gasket.
